Life as Overseas Worker

its been 9yrs now that i spend my entire life in this country, named Brunei Darrussalam. Yet, every time i woke up, my deep thoughts ringing on my ears,"hmmm its another day again, with a wide stretch on my arms"hmmm work again".

I can hear my cat's meow meow, juz outside in my bedroom door, begging for his master's attention, a cuddle and a fish is enough for him.One year with me, he never got tired of waking me up juz to get off my butt.

I am the earliest bird who usually used the kitchen, other staff still sleeping, their duty time is few minutes late than mine.Cooked, prepare my lunch box coz restaurant is not cheap.Quick breakfast, quick shower and a quick dressed up to my so called "aerobic attire".

Out fitness studio is only 15 steps to walk from our staff house. Boss has entrusted us to take care of everything, opening and closing of the shop, our duty includes the ff: have to teach at least 2 to 3 times a day, accept special classes, in or outside, reception such as answering phone calls, receiving payments, updating clients records, inquiries and we must observe cleanliness around the area.

Our peak hour is afternoon sessions, we are like bizzz, roaming around, loud music played, instructors voice echoed to the whole building, that even passers by could look up, perhaps wondering whats going on in there. We work from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:30pm.Saturdays is a happy day for us, closing time is 7pm and on the next day is everybody's off day.

Break time is 2to 3 hours a day. Enough for an afternoon nap, laundry time, clean room, do my practice or just roam around.

Weekend, a house party with friends are very common in Brunei. A Muslim country where there's no pub to drink or dance, completely no night life so one must strive to look for an alternatives in order to enjoy, this includes going to the beach, shopping mall, sight seeing or go to the movie.

Transportation is tough, no 24hours taxi and bus. Local people have their own car, its necessity for them, and it becomes to the OFW as well. Me and my partner agreed, and bought our own but sold it when he got a company car, a better one.

Another year from now, my contract will end again, and of course need to be renewed. Felt so bored and tired, sometimes want to give up. But wait! as i come to my senses, you never give up life. One must be patient and push to the limit, to achieve what you want to achieve.

To live, like no family around in a foreign country, has made me a stronger, more independent and better person. Its eating me alive at first but as time goes by, this strange place is becoming my home away from home.

Something in this place i missed most. The fresh smell of it. Very clean, its so green, trees, flowers, everywhere. You can even see happy monkeys and birds while you're in the highway, amazing landscape. No air and sound pollution, car not allowed to horn, no calamity,no war, no snatcher in the city, you can wear and show off your jewelry. So peaceful, quite, very simple life.I think the most holy place i know in the world. But don't go near to the lake or river, crocodile and real big snakes, a lot hehehe..

Well, only fate can tell what life after these, i am so dedicated to my job for now, so in love with this place. So far happy enough to just live life to the fullest.....
